Charlie grew up in Newport Beach, California, where the influence of his father and family throughout his childhood led to an affinity for water sports.
He started sailing at the age of 8. From there, he progressed through the junior, high school, and collegiate sailing ranks in the United States, eventually choosing to campaign for the 2016 Olympics in the Laser class after graduating from Georgetown University in 2011
Charlie finished 11th place out of 46 nations in the 2016 Olympics. He is continuing to train and compete in the Laser toward the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
